We are proud to announce that Union FC Indy’s Boys & Girls U13-U19 programs have been accepted as a National League Club member for the 2025-2026 season. This elite platform, Club Premier 2 (formerly Elite 64 Regional League), will provide our players with top-level regional competition, new pathways for development, and expanded college recruiting opportunities. We can’t wait to showcase our talent and compete at higher levels!

ZYSA Selects Union FC Indy as New Name for its Travel Program

Zionsville, IN — February 17, 2025

Announcement

Zionsville Youth Soccer Association (ZYSA) is broadening its reach throughout central Indiana. Founded in 1979, ZYSA is rebranding its travel program (including Futures, Pathway and junior/senior Travel teams) to Union FC Indy — reflecting a commitment to serving communities and soccer players beyond its home base. The Club’s thriving Recreational program and popular fall Socctoberfest tournament will continue to operate as ZYSA.

The transition marks a significant milestone in the club’s journey, focusing on growth, connecting soccer communities, and the development of future soccer talent in Central Indiana. This change reflects our continued commitment to elevating the club’s competitiveness, expanding our reach, and solidifying our position as a premier destination for youth soccer development.

Timeline

This new re-brand only effects the travel program (Futures through Senior travel teams)

It will be in affect beginning June 2, at travel tryouts.

Process & Planning

This rebrand is the culmination of a full year of very thorough and thoughtful planning and input from key stakeholders, including Board members, staff, coaches, parents, players, marketing and design professionals and club supporters. Dozens of names, logos and colors were explored and reviewed. The new identity embraces a modern, forward-thinking vision, combining the Club’s rich history of nearly 50 years in Central Indiana with a renewed commitment to building a strong and competitive experience for players.

This isn’t just a name change; it’s a declaration of our ambition. Union FC Indy is poised to become a force in the Indiana soccer landscape. This rebrand allows us to:

Raise the Bar of Competition : We’re dedicated to fostering a more competitive environment for our players, enabling them to reach their full potential and compete at the highest levels.
Expand Our Footprint: Union FC Indy will broaden our geographic reach, attracting talented players from across the region at an earlier age and offering them unparalleled development opportunities.
Unlock New Opportunities : This rebrand opens doors to expand sponsorship opportunities beyond the Zionsville community, allowing us to invest further in our players, coaches and facilities.

Why Union FC Indy?

The name Union FC Indy embodies the principles of teamwork, development, and community collaboration—values that have always been central to the club's ethos. The word "Union" reflects the goal of creating a sense of togetherness among players, coaches, and families while building a stronger soccer culture in community. The new “FC” (Football Club) further solidifies the club’s professional approach to player development, with an emphasis on creating a positive and competitive environment.

Facility Addition - New Turf Field

The club has broken ground on a new state-of-the art turf field to be completed in early April.

The name “ Union FC Indy ” is a nod to our rich history. We pay homage to the club’s roots, harking back to its origins as “Eagle Union” in 1979. This connection to our past strengthens our foundation as we stride confidently into our future.

2010 Boys Green NL Advance to National League Semifinals

ZYSA 2010 Boys Green NL Advances to National League Semifinals

The ZYSA 2010 Boys Green NL team recently made a strong showing at the USYS National League Quarterfinals in Mesa, Arizona. Competing against top teams from across the nation, the 2010 Green NL squad secured their place in the next round.

The team faced three tough opponents:

KBSC Elite 2010 (FL): A narrow 3-4 loss
Stony Brook Thunder B10 (NY-E): A hard fought 2-2 draw
WIUFC 10B Premier (WI): A 1-0 win

A crucial 1-0 victory over WIUFC 10B Premier propelled the 2010 Green NL team into the National League Semifinals.

For the 14U-19U age groups, the National League Quarterfinals are the first step towards the ultimate goal: the USYS National Championships. The Semifinals, set to take place in Oceanside, California, from May 2nd to 6th, will determine which teams advance to the final stage of this prestigious competition.

We congratulate the ZYSA 2010 Boys Green NL team on their impressive performance and wish them the best of luck in the upcoming Semifinals!

Coach in Training Program: A Stepping Stone for Young Coaches

At ZYSA, coach Tony Beck is taking a proactive approach to developing the next generation of soccer coaches. His innovative "Coach in Training" program, designed for his 2012 Girls team, offers young players a unique opportunity to gain valuable coaching experience while contributing to the team's success.

The Program's Goals:

Hands-On Experience: Players get to experience various aspects of coaching, from leading warm-ups to providing feedback to teammates.
Leadership Development: The program fosters leadership skills and a sense of responsibility within the team.

How it Works:

Coach Beck has carefully structured the program to ensure a smooth transition into coaching. Players are given specific roles and responsibilities, gradually increasing their involvement over time. Some of the tasks they may undertake include:

Leading warm-up drills: Players take turns leading the team in dynamic and engaging warm-up exercises.
Providing feedback: Players offer constructive feedback to teammates on their performance during practice and games.
Assisting with drills: Players help coach Beck set up and demonstrate drills, ensuring that all team members understand the instructions.
Leading small-sided games: Players take charge of leading small-sided games, focusing on specific tactical or technical aspects of the game.

Benefits for the Players:

Increased confidence: Coaching experience boosts players' self-esteem and confidence on and off the field.
Enhanced understanding of the game: By coaching, players develop a deeper understanding of tactics, strategy, and the rules of the game.
Leadership development: The program helps players develop essential leadership skills, such as communication, decision-making, and teamwork.

ZYSA CAPITAL CAMPAIGN FUND

As ZYSA continues working on long-term development, the Club has moved forward with another partnership!

ZYSA has now opened a Donation Account with Stifel, an investment firm based out of St. Louis, while working with local Zionsville resident and Sr. VP Investments, Edward Valdettaro, at a local Indy branch.

Purpose

To raise funds in order drive the development of the Club, in turn to help players learn and develop, both on and off the field, while continuing to make a lasting impact in the community.

Capital Campaign Fund Goal

$3,500,000

What is a Donation Account?

ZYSA is a 501c(3) organization, meaning we are a non-profit, or charity. As such, a non-profit may receive not only cash donations, but marketable securities as well, like individual stocks, mutual funds, and bonds.

Donating to charity feels good, but so does the tax deduction! It’s not surprising that nearly 75% of high-income taxpayers donate cash to charity. But, fewer than 10% donate marketable securities.

When you donate appreciated securities to a qualified charity, the fair market value is deducted from your taxable income and neither you, nor the charity will be taxed on the capital gain. Therefore, you can make a bigger impact with your charitable donation by gifting your stocks, rather liquidating them and gifting the cash that remains after you’ve paid federal capital gains tax.

Donating From a Donor Advised Fund (DAF)

A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is like a charitable investment account for the sole purpose of supporting charitable organizations you care about.

If you have a DAF, or open/create one, when you contribute cash, securities, or other assets, you are generally eligible to take an immediate tax deduction. Then those funds can be invested for tax-free growth in the Donor Advised Fund, and you can recommend grants to any eligible IRS-qualified public charity.

Donor-advised funds are the fastest-growing charitable giving vehicle in the United States because they are one of the easiest and most tax-advantageous ways to give to charity.

DAF’s do cost money and have stipulations just like any other type of investment account, so please consult your Finance/Tax Advisor on whether you should open and donate to this type of investment account.

Donating From A Retirement Account

If you have a Traditional IRA, you can make your donations via a qualified charitable distribution (QCD), which is a distribution from your individual retirement account (IRA). You must be age 70½ or older to make a QCD. A qualified charitable distribution is not taxed, nor is it included in your taxable income.

If certain conditions are met, QCDs also can count toward the required minimum distributions (RMDs) that people who are age 73 or older must meet each year if they have traditional IRAs

Favorite Moments Growing Up Playing Soccer

My favorite moments of soccer growing up were in the years after my family moved to California in 6-9th grade. We would have games on a Saturday morning and then you would find out from your parents how many of your friends and teammates could spend the night. We would play soccer all afternoon in the open lot across the street until it got dark and then play Subbuteo for hours and hours into the night. These were the formative years....where there was little to no coaching, but you played constantly with your friends. Favorite Part of Coaching

My favorite part of coaching is working with other people in an attempt to solve problems. I truly have always enjoyed being part of a team—dedicated to something bigger than oneself. Coaching has allowed me to work within coaching staffs where ideas and inspiration are formulated in order to maximize both the individual and team. I relish the time spent working and collaborating with good people. Remember, it is neither the journey, nor the destination....., rather, it is the process and the people.

Favorite Ice Cream

Vanilla.....but of course, I would like all sorts of toppings to put on it, so it is more a buffet of ice cream options, rather than a single flavor.

Connecting with ZYSA’s Philosophy

What part of ZYSA's philosophy do I "connect" with—I would have to say CONNECTION. This club is about people. My job is about people. Teams are about people. Coaching is about people. I believe that it is essential that we create connections across all segments of our club—ensuring that each individual feels valued, heard, and supported. It is after these connections have been made that we, as mentors and coaches, can have positive impacts in supporting our players' growth and development.

Celebrating Troy Patten’s Remarkable Achievements!

Huge congratulations to Troy Patten from the ZYSA 2010 Boys Green team! Troy has made a significant mark on the national stage by being named an honorable mention for the USYS National Best XI team and bringing home the prestigious Golden Ball for the U14 age group at the US Youth Soccer National Championships!

The Golden Ball is a highly coveted award given to the player who has the greatest competitive impact during the National Championships, and Troy’s exceptional performance and dedication on the field made him the standout choice for this honor. His skill, leadership, and determination throughout the tournament were critical in his team’s success, and he exemplified what it means to compete at the highest level.

Being named to the USYS National Best XI team, even as an honorable mention, highlights Troy’s talent and hard work. This recognition places him among the top young players in the country—a testament to his commitment to excellence and the bright future that lies ahead for him in soccer.

2010 Boys Green NL: Qualified for USYS National Championships

Celebrating the ZYSA 2010 Boys Green NL Team: Champions of the

2024 Indiana State Cup and qualifying for the USYS National Championships

2024 Indiana State Champion ZYSA 2010 Green NL qualified for USYS National Championships putting together an inspiring performance over 6 days of competition at USYS Regional in Kansas City from June 21st – June 26th. They emerged victorious in group play which included 3 other state champions from Ohio (Nat’l Rank: 97), Michigan (Nat’l Rank: 73), and Kansas (Nat’l Rank: 102), each ranked . As Finalists at the Midwest Regionals, their performance earned them a spot at the USYS National Championships taking place July 21 – July 28 in Orlando, Florida. This is the youngest team ever from Indiana to earn a berth at the USYS National Championships in its 50-year history of elite competition.

Construction of Full-Sized 11v11 Synthetic Turf Playing Field

New Full-Sized 11v11 Synthetic Turf Playing Field

ZYSA is excited to announce that the club has signed a contract with Byrne and Jones Construction to build a full-sized 11v11 synthetic turf playing field with lighting. The project is in the current planning stages, with Byrne and Jones creating the specs and drawings and the goal is for the field to be both designed and erected by year’s end. The field will be built on the footprint of the current Field #3—which sits just to the west of the Champ Stadium Field.

The new construction will provide several key benefits:

Durability and Longevity : Artificial turf is designed to withstand heavy usage and adverse weather conditions, reducing wear and tear and ensuring a consistently playable surface. This allows for more frequent and extended use without the need for recovery periods, making sure that players always have a high-quality field to train and compete on.
Low Maintenance : Unlike natural grass, artificial turf requires minimal maintenance. There is no need for mowing, watering, field lining, or reseeding, which saves time and resources. This efficiency can be redirected into enhancing other aspects of the club, such as training programs and player development.

The financial savings can be reinvested in facilities, equipment, and coaching, enhancing the overall quality of the club.
Increased Playing Opportunities : With its durability and low maintenance, artificial turf can accommodate more games and practice sessions without the need for recovery periods, maximizing the field’s usage throughout the calendar year. More playing time allows for better player development and more competitive teams.
Enhanced Aesthetic Appeal : Our grass fields look great, however, the addition of a pristine and professional appearing artificial turf field will provide year-round visual appeal.
Expanded Winter Training Options : The availability of an on-campus turf field will greatly alleviate overcrowding at the Indoor Training Facility during the Winter months as it will allow our travel program teams to make use of weekends as well as weeknight training times.

The 72x116 playing surface, ideal for youth 11v11 matches, will also allow us to host two 9v9 games at the same time within that space, or two 7v7 fields. There will be 20’ tall netting stretching 60’ across behind each goal.

ZYSA Board President, Chris Pettit stated, “The outdoor turf field on ZYSA campus provides an additional resource necessary for our teams to enhance their training. We are excited to bring an idea that has been in the works to fruition.” Sporting Director, Robert Klatte added, “the addition of the synthetic turf field will be a game changer for our club. The surface will assist in our players’ technical development and dramatically reduce the impact of inclement weather on our teams. The new field represents the club’ commitment to continuing to improve both our programming as well as our facilities.”

Facility Maintenance Fee

ZYSA will institute a $100 Facility Maintenance Fee to all Pathway, Academy, and Travel player registrations for the 2024/25 soccer year. Additionally, Futures and Recreational player registrations will be charged at a rate of $25 per season.

Facility Maintenance Fees will be charged in whole and be partnered with a player’s first payment—whether you are choosing to pay in full, or whether you are choosing an installment payment plan.

Facility Maintenance Fees are designed to cover costs associated with maintaining and updating all of the club’s facilities—including but not limited to the field maintenance equipment, club staffing, facility buildings (repair, maintenance, and updates), agronomy programming, and parking. Additionally, the club is looking to undertake several key projects in the near future and these funds will help establish a foundation for their beginning.

As a club, we recognize the that our playing fields, restrooms, parking lot, and indoor facilities are key touchpoints for our players and their families, and we are determined to ensure that they are maintained to a standard where everyone involved is proud to call ZYSA their soccer home.

Please remember that there are no early offers this year, so everyone wanting to play at ZYSA for the 2024/25 soccer year will need to sign up for tryouts.

ZYSA Invests in AEDs for their Facility

ZYSA, in connection with Heart Reach Medical, places 24/7 Accessible AEDs at their Soccer Complex

The Zionsville Youth Soccer Association has invested in life saving AEDs as well as outdoor and indoor SaveStation cabinets to house the AEDs for their soccer fields located at 5616 S. CR 700 E. in Whitestown.

In addition to the two AEDs owned by the organization, ZYSA acquired three additional AEDs through purchase and donation. Two of the AEDs will be located at indoor locations, while the other 3 will be accessible 24/7 in outdoor ventilated and heated cabinets.

Placing AEDs in outdoor SaveStations significantly increases the chance of survival by making these life-saving devices accessible to anyone, at any time. SaveStation is helping communities across the United States work together to place AEDs outside in highly visible, easily recognizable SaveStations in the areas where they live, work and play

Sudden Cardiac Arrest can happen to anyone at any time, and when it strikes, every second matters. For every minute that defibrillation is delayed, the chance of survival decreases by 10%. Annually, more than 350,000 Americans suffer out of hospital cardiac arrests; with the majority of them happening at home or in a public place. Currently only around 10% of people survive.

Studies show that the immediate use of an AED combined with CPR can increase the likelihood of survival by 75% or more; however, all too often, AEDs are not publicly accessible.

“We are so thankful and impressed by ZYSA’s proactive acquisition of additional AED’s for their large complex. It’s so important to be prepared in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest of a Zionville or visiting player, guest or coach. What makes this placement even more impressive is the incorporation of the Save Station outdoor cabinets. These Save Stations safely house the AEDs 24/7 in a temperature-controlled environment. This will allow the AED to be accessible to players, coaches and spectators during practices as well. Sudden Cardiac arrests are unpredictable however with CPR and an AED, the chances of survival increase significantly! We hope Zionsville’s example will serve as an opportunity for all soccer clubs to follow their example in becoming a rescue ready club!”
